Star Wars: Shattered Worlds
In the years following the Galactic Civil War era and the demise of both the Black Sun crime syndicate and Jabba the Hutt, the once dominant Hutt Cartel waned in influence over the Outer Rim and over the criminal underworld throughout the Galaxy. For a time it was the Zann Consortium that arose as the victor over the underworld’s crime wars, but eventually various other crime lords rose to take Zann’s place.
During this period of unrest, a wily Hutt named Zonna began to wrest control of the Outer Rim back from the warring crime lords and position itself once again a major player in the rising Trade Syndicate. Zonna used spies and bounty hunters to eliminate rivals and was a prime candidate to see the Hutt Cartel rise to become the bosses of bosses in the Syndicate.
However, Zonna’s primary rival Ulrich Drakos held a stronger network with the Core worlds and among the trade bureaucrats. Ultimately, Drakos was able to position himself as not only at the head of the Syndicate’s business holdings, but used his own extensive network of bureaucrats and spies to hijack the Resistance fleet at Corellia and earn a favor from the emergant Empire. With Drakos securing a seat on the Inner Circle, Zonna the Hutt and the rest of the Cartel was forced to play a more secondary role. However, the Hutt influence over several planets in the Outer Rim make it a key player in both the Syndicate’s Black Market trade as well as acquisition of criminals to employ against critical targets in order to continue to expand its influence over the Galaxy.
