Star Wars: Shattered Worlds
The planet Dromund Kaas once stood as the captiol of the great first Sith Empire during the Old Republic era. For millenia after its fall to the Republic, its importance in the Galaxy waned and the planet fell into obscurity. Its once vast jungles gave way to murky bogs and swamps and the old Sith capitol city fell to ruin, overrun by tribal marauders and a handful of Dark side cultists who tapped into the planet’s inherent Dark side Force aura. Like the mostly forgotten Sith homeworld of Moraband the planet served as little more than a Dark side battery for the Galactic Empire of Darth Sidious in his powerful Force rituals waged against his opposition in the final days of the Old Republic.
The planet was easily reclaimed by the new Emperor in the early days of the founding of the second Sith Empire. Vast resources drawn from nearby planets such as Vjun went into reconstructing the capitol. Surrounded now by a dark landscape of creature-infested swamps and an atmosphere of toxic gasses, the New Imperial Palace stands as a testament to the restoration of Sith engineering and overlooks the Galaxy as a nearly impregnable fortress that houses the more ritualistic affairs of State and meetings of the Dark Council. While Dromund Kaas continues to serve as the spiritual and provincial capitol of the second Sith Empire, Coruscant has been re-established as the Galactic center for trade, military, and administrative matters, keeping the New Imperial Palace as a more symbolic retreat for the Emperor and his Inner Circle and a center for administrative oversight for the Sith Lords and their New Korriban Academy.
